MARYLAND] A Compleat Collection of the Laws of Maryland. With an Index, and Marginal Notes ... Collected and Printed by Authority . Annapolis: William Parks, 1727. First edition of the first book printed at Annapolis, and the first complete collection of the Laws of Maryland. Three-quarters morocco, cloth sides. 11 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches (29.5 x 17.5 cm); [4], 300, [6] ff., partially interleaved with blanks by an early owner, collating [A]^[2] B-4G^[2] ^[2]4G^[2] 4H^[2] (4H2 blank lacking here), the title with the Baltimore arms (Reilly 934). Occasional toning and scattered foxing, a few short marginal tears, but generally a sound copy, the title with the stamp of the Bar Association, and with the signature of James Calder at the head of the title, some notes in text, with many additional 18th century annotations on the inserted blanks. Lacking the "Advertisement to the Reader" sometimes found on the original pastedown, as well as the final blank. Parks was the first printer to establish a press in Annapolis; he later moved to Williamsburg but retained his Annapolis office, and was printer to the assembly. A2 is a full-page dedication from the printer to Charles Calvert Lord Baltimore. This was the only compendium of the colony's laws until the 1765 revision by Jonas Green. Evans 2897; Wroth Printing in Maryland 38. C The New York City Bar Association
