Large woodcut printer's device on title and 2 woodcut portraits. (Margins of title and first 4 leaves repaired, minor marginal worming to a few leaves.) 19th-century marbled boards, vellum corners (rebacked with calf). Provenance : Henrie Ker of Linland (signature on title and B1) -- Horace J. Bridges (signature on front free endpaper dated Oct. 10 1939). FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. "This was the first of that stately array of folio translations of the classics which issued from the pens of the 'translator generall in his age' -- the whole of the present he claims to have written with one pen" (Pforzheimer 495). STC 16613.
