LINDBERGH, Charles A. and Anne M.] Four printed cards, one with autograph notations by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Four copies of "Department of Commerce, Radio Division, International Radiotelegraphic Convention List of Abbreviations to be used in radio Transmissions," U.S. Government Printing office, 1928 (Form 772a). 4 pages, 8vo, one with AML's notations slightly worn, from use in flight . ANNE LINDBERGH'S RADIO TELEGRAPH GLOSSARY USED ON "NORTH TO THE ORIENT FLIGHT" To simplify the amount of "keying" that radio operators needed to perform, the International Radiotelegraphic Convention devised three-letter codes for the most commonly used questions and answers between operators. All the codes begin with "Q," such as "QRA: What is the name of your station?" "QRD: Where are you going?" "QTE: What is my true bearing?" Each code was used as both an interrogatory and an affirmative response, depending on who sent it first. Thus "QRI" is both "Is my tone bad?" and "Your tone is bad." At least one of these four copies of the list was used by Anne Lindbergh (and she likely took the other three as back-ups), and it bears a penciled notation about a call-signal made on 1 August 1931. An important artifact from the historic New York - Tokyo flight. (4)
