Lindbergh, Charles Fine collection of approximately 42 items including autograph and typed letters signed by himself and his wife Anne, photographs, souvenir programs, postcards and other memorabilia, 1927–1983, as follows: 1. San Diego Chamber of Commerce. Citizen's "We" Banquet Program signed ("C.A. Lindbergh"), 4 pages on a bifolium (7 x 5 1/2 in.; 178 x 140 mm); traces of mounting in fore-edges of first and last pages. Blue cloth folding-case, gilt-stamped title on spine and upper cover. 2. Autograph note signed "C.A.L.", notecard (3 x 5 in.; 76 x 127 mm),no place or date, typewritten at top is citation of Carl Spaatz, "Strategic Air Power," Foreign Affairs, April 1946, vol. 24, pages 385-396, Lindbergh writes: "Marvin McFarland, Congressional Library, says this is probably the best article Spaatz has written." On the verso: "The Cong. Library has the negative of the Kitty Hawk first flight—much clearer than most prints one sees" and then gives McFarland's address, and concludes "This is the one of the plane just taking off —Wilbur W. at wing." "Covering the Air," autograph manuscript signed at title, 29 pages (11 x 8 1/2 in.; 280 x 215 mm), [New York City], 30 November 1927, a first-hand account of Lindbergh's take-off from Roosevelt Field, 20 May 1927 on his transatlantic flight to Paris, recounting how The Daily Mirror had scooped all other reporters on this event, by bribing a telephone operator with several pairs of silk stockings, and printing an account of the take-off while Lindbergh was still on the ground. 4. Typed letter signed ("Charles A. Lindbergh"), 2 pages (9 7/8 x 7 3/4 in.; 250 x 198 mm), Long Barn, Sevenoaks, Kent, 21 September 1936, with stamped envelope, to Martin Engstrom in Little Falls, Minnesota, offering guidance on restoring his farm property. 5. Typed letter signed ("Charles A. Lindbergh"), 1 page (11 x 8 1/4 in.; 280 x 210 mm), Vaud, Switzerland, 16 August 1967, to Cass Canfield, Harper & Row, New York City, refusing to cooperate with a planned biography by [Walter S.] Ross, published in 1968 as The Last Hero; a few pencil notes in top margin. 6. Typed letter signed ("Charles A. Lindbergh"), 1 page (11 x 8 1/2 in.; 280 x 215 mm), Vaud, Switzerland, 7 August 1969, to Margaret K. Thompson, Guidance Associates, Pleasantville, New York, mentioning the flight of Apollo XI, his appreciation of her photographs, and on his favorite nature magazines. 7. Typed letter signed ("Charles A. Lindbergh"), 1 page (11 x 8 1/2 in.; 280 x 215 mm) on the letterhead of the Lindbergh Cattle Company, but Darien, Connecticut, 29 December 1968, to Margaret K. Thompson, Harcourt Brace & World, Pleasantville, New York, on scheduling times for further recordings, comments and readings for an impending publication (perhaps the Wartime Journals). Items 3-7 in a green cloth folding-case, gilt-stamped title label on spine. Plus 35 additional items including autograph and typed letters signed by Lindbergh and by his wife and transcripts thereof, signed and unsigned photos, postcards, commemorative envelopes, souvenir programs, menus, and a contract for his life story with the Daily Mirror from 1927; in various states of preservation.
