Édition originale de ce recueil de traités mathématiques, géométriques et astronomiques destinés à l'usage des étudiants. Schreiber précise que l'épitome de Lefèvre sur l'arithmétique de Boetius, avec les commentaires de l'humaniste et théologien Clichtove (1472-1543), était un des ouvrages les plus utilisés par les étudiants de La Sorbonne. Bovelle quant à lui livre ici la première étude française sur la géométrie. Enfin, l'Astronomie de Lefèvre rencontra un tel succès que H. Estienne en donna une nouvelle édition en 1517 avec des commentaires de Clichtove. Cet ouvrage est une des premières éditions imprimées par Henri Estienne Ier, qui avait ouvert son atelier en 1502, et l'une des trois ou quatrième collaboration avec l'imprimeur-libraire allemand Wolfgang Hopyl. Impression en caractères romains d'une grande élégance, les schémas parfaitement alignés dans les marges, et les initiales aquarellées en bleu ou rouge. Feuillet “lxi” avec déchirure restaurée sans manque; feuillet “fxcvii”, petit manque marginal restauré. Légers frottements à la reliure. “First editions of these mathematical, geometrical, and astronomical treatises to be used as the basis of lectures to university students... This is the first edition with Clichtove's commentary... Clichtove's Praxis numerandi, devoted mainly to the theory of numbers, gives an elaborate theory of ratios and figure numbers. The Introductio in geometriam of Charles Bovelles - the first geometrical work published by a Frenchman - includes a discourse on the quadrature of tht circle, the cubation of the sphere, perspective, etc. Lefevre's Astronomicon a brief introductory textbook on astronomy, contains a prefatory letter to Germain de Ganay, in which Lefevre draws a sharp distinction between the false astrology of seers and “horoscope-makers” and the true science of the heavenly bodies” (Schreiber).
