Beschreibung:

λ GEOFFREY DASHWOOD (BRITISH, 1947-) A LIMITED EDITION BRONZE MODEL OF A RABBIT CONTEMPORARY Bronze with greenish patina, signed to cast and numbered 11/12 22.5cm high, 24cm long overall Provenance: The Imogen Paine collection of rabbits Geoffrey Dashwood is perhaps best known for his sculptural work in bronze depicting birds. Hampshire born, he worked with the Forestry Commission in the New Forest before making a career for himself as an artist. Initially he worked in the manner of Moigniez and the 19th century animaliers before embracing purer, leaner lines adn shapes,. Abandoning the superfluities of details his work takes on a more tactile abstract approach- enlivened and enriched by a keen eye for patina and colour. His work outside the avian world is less common, but no less rewarding and displays his innate understanding not just of form but of animal behaviour.
