Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) Tenchi tenno (Emperor Tenchi), from the series Hyakunin isshu uba ga etoki (The one hundred poems by one hundred poets as told by the nurse) Woodcut of farmers working in the fields in autumn at sunset illustrating the poem transcribed in the square cartouche by Emperor Tenchi (626-672), signed Zen Hokusai manji ( manji printed in red) published by Nishimuraya Yohachi [Eijudo]--fine impression, very good color, pin hole worming, though general condition good, trimmed into tree, title cartouche and signature oban yoko-e : 9 7/16 x 14½in. (23.9 x 36.8cm.) The poem reads: Aki no ta no kariho no iho no toma o arami waga koromode wa tsuyu ni nuretsutsu In the autumn fields seeking shelter in a hut, through the rush mat roof my sleeves are growing wet from the dew soaking through it.
