Parry’s voyage was to be recognized as one of the most important in the history of Arctic exploration: he proved that Lancaster Sound opened a passage to the west, he charted a vast area of the unknown Arctic, and proved that it was possible to spend the winter north of the Arctic Circle without being in grave danger. Upon his return to London, Parry was promoted to the rank of Commander and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. There was a supplement to the appendix (pp. clxxxiii-cccx) published in 1824, not present with this copy. Second Voyage lacks two plates "Cutting into Winter Island" and Takkeelikkeeta, an Esquimaux Igloolik, 1823". Sabin 58860; 58864.
