Pastell, 27 x 46 cm, l. u. sign. Helene Varges, unter Passepartout und Glas gerahmt, ungeöffnet. - Deutsche Landschaftsmalerin. Nach erster Ausbildung an der Zeichenschule Stettin konnte sie dank eines Stipendiums ab 1897 bei E. Doepler in der Malklasse des Berliner Kunstgewerbemuseums studieren und arbeitete danach zunächst im Sinne des Jugendstils. 1919 ließ sie sich zusammen mit der Schriftstellerin M. Boie auf Sylt nieder, deren Landschaft fortan prägend für ihr Werk wurde. Lit.: U. Schulte-Wülwer, Künstlerinsel Sylt, 2005.

Initially educated at the Stettin drawing school she studied at the painting school of the Berlin art museum under E. Doepler. In 1919 she moved to Sylt together with the writer M.
