(7 x 4 5/8 in.), contemporary vellum over flexible pasteboard lining, covers gilt-panelled with GILT ARMS OF JACQUES-AUGUSTE DE THOU within gilt wreath at center, flat spine gilt with his bachelor's monogram repeated in three of four gilt-panelled compartments, g.e., lacking ties, small gouge to edge of upper cover, slightly soiled, some minor foxing and browning, occasional underlinings in ink, small wormhole through last 2 leaves . Second Rouillé ediiton in Italian, italic type, printer's woodcut device on title and last leaf, oval medallion portrait of the author on verso of title, 138 emblematic oval woodcuts, woodcut initials. Baudrier IX, pp. 348-9; Praz, p. 70. Provenance : Jacques-Auguste de Thou (1553-1617) -- Long note in a nineteenth-century French hand on front free endpaper, signed Lordat -- Horace Landau, bookplate (inventory no. 64756).
