The corners with silver mounts of putti at play with C scroll bracket feet. Key present. Fully marked to corner mounts, lid and hinges part-marked, key unmarked. Length – 14 cm / 5.5 inches With a note to say “16 Dec 1917, from Mr Alfred Shuttleworth to E.M.B” for Emma Maria Brooke (1849-1922) only daughter of Charles Brooke FRS (1804-1879) noted surgeon and inventor, also president of the Royal Meteorological Society between 1865–1866. He was the son of mineralogist Henry James Brooke (1771–1857). (Thence by descent).
