A Victorian silver-gilt mounted dressing-table set Mark of John Samuel Hunt, London, 1849, with retailer's mark for Hunt & Roskell Comprising three oblong silver-gilt mounted fluted glass jars and the cover of another, three fluted cylindrical jars, and five fluted square jars, each mounted with silver-gilt collar and cover chased with strapwork and floral and foliate scroll borders and applied with a crowned monogram on a textured ground, the glass painted with scrolls and strapwork in gilt, with star-cut bases, some with inner glass stoppers, also containing two silver-gilt beakers, each slightly waisted cylindrical, with scroll and strapwork border and applied with a crowned monogram, a shaped oblong tray similarly decorated, a shaped oval velvet-backed hand-mirror with faceted baluster shaped handle, the mirror framed with a cast foliate scroll and fruiting garland border below two draped putti supporting a crowned strapwork monogrammed cartouche, a dressing-table mirror on scroll feet, similarly decorated, two pairs of scissors, a shoe-horn, a button-hook, a folding pen-knife, two corkscrews, eight manicure implements, and a teaspoon, each with shaped strapwork, cartouche and scroll handle, some engraved with a monogram or a crown, two mother-of-pearl mounted implements, a folding ivory ruler, a miniature tortoiseshell-backed mirror, and a silver-gilt mounted powder puff, the engine-turned mount with two vacant cartouches and button finial,, most marked on covers, mounts or handles, the beakers marked on sides, also stamped HUNT & ROSKELL LATE STORR MORTIMER & HUNT on bases , all in a wooden case lined and fitted in two layers with blue velvet, with brass trim, fittings, and recessed handles in strapwork and shell insets, the cover inlaid with a crowned monogram, the lock-plate stamped J.
