Levick's pair of binoculars, stamped Ross London and "Stepruva" No. 109873 Power 9 Field 8° , with black leather strap, all within a red-velvet-lined shaped brown-calf carrying case, the case inscribed in ink on base 'Commander Murray LEVICK W[...indistinct]'. Provenance : George Murray Levick (inscription, by descent to his son); Rodney Levick (gift to:); William Ernest Coppledick (by descent to present owner). Surgeon Commander George Murray Levick R.N. was seconded to the British Antarctic Expedition at Scott's request, having served under him on HMS Essex in 1908. He was surgeon and zoologist to what became the Northern Party, which operated for the most part independently of the main expedition, under the command of Victor Campbell. Raymond Priestley was the party's geologist; Petty Officers Abbott and Browning, and Seaman Dickason completed the numbers.
