Scott, including silver-plated bugle, 9 in. tall; U.S. waist belt plate, 2.25 x 3.25 in.; 1864 U.S. cartridge box containing original tins; an Indian-Wars era group portrait of Scott and his regiment at camp, with Scott's name, plus 1 in WV ?mat 30 Wednesday and 2nd top left penciled on verso, perhaps indicating his location in the photograph, with A.F. Merry Pawtucket, RI backstamp, 4.5 x 7.25 in., mounted on card stock; a G.A.R. reunion photograph with the following penciled below the image Geteysburg [sic] Penn. 1898, 8.25 x 9.75 in., mounted on card stock; a document with Commonwealth of Massachusetts / Adjutant General's Office letterhead, outlining Scott's service record; a printed document announcing a Department of Rhode Island G.A.R. excursion to Washington, D.C., dated 1892; and a printed letter from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Commission on the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg discussing the details of the celebration and the fact that veterans who participated in the battle will be able to attend free of charge, as long as they respond ahead of time, 2pp. George H. Scott enlisted as a Private at the age of 18 on 12/22/1863, mustering into Co. I, Massachusetts 18th Infantry. While with the MA 18th, Scott participated in the opening of the battle of the Wilderness. The 18th was also engaged at Laurel Hill near Spotsylvania, North Anna, and Cold Harbor. By October of 1864, the remaining soldiers, including Scott, were transferred to the 32nd MA regiment. Scott transferred into Co. K, MA 32nd Infantry 10/21/1864. In early 1865, the 32nd spent the winter months in the trenches before Petersburg, and on Feb. 5, it was engaged with loss at Hatcher's Run, on March 31 at Dinwiddie Court House, and on April 1 at Five Forks. The 32nd was also among the troops that overtook Lee at Appomattox, and was one of the regiments detailed to accept the arms and colors at the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia, April 9, 1865. The 32nd was transferred to Washington in June, and Scott was mustered out on 6/20/1865. Following the war, Scott resided in Franklin, MA. He was a member of GAR post #130 in West Medway, MA and served as Post Commander. Condition: Even toning to photographs; some loss to mounts for each photograph, indicating that they may have been pasted in an album at some point; scattered dings in bugle. Cartridge box: torn seam on left side of box; missing left "ear" on internal cover; missing flap and latch for implement pouch; tear in implement pouch; rust in cartridge tins; rust on shoulder strap buckles.
