MOSAIC BINDING BY PIERRE-LUCIEN MARTIN, signed and dated 1955: smooth gilt-lettered black-morocco spine, Cubist covers of white, black, citron, ochre and blue-grey polished calf, top edges gilt, uncut, black and white glazed endpapers, original printed wrappers and back-strip bound in. Provenance : bought from Lucien Goldschmidt in 1956. FIRST EDITION. These Surrealist poems written in 1921-26 show Eluard at the height of his powers. Finely designed and executed binding by Martin (1913-85).
