ALBUM WITH PAINTINGS OF INDIAN BIRDS AND PEOPLE Indian Sketches , India, 19th century 200 x 265 mm. The front and back covers and first page with one painting and the rest of the album leaves with two paintings inserted into windows on the recto and verso, all on mica and comprising 11 studies of birds and 20 portraits of Indians with different occupations, the leaves gilt on all three edges and bound into a red morocco binding with brass clasps. Most of the paintings with minor losses to mica, usually at edges, and with flaking and associated loss of paint. Minor wear to edges of album, especially corners, and the top clasp is detached.
