New York: M. Dripps, circa 1883. Hand-colored lithographed folding pocket maps (38 x 23 inches, 965x585 mm). Folds into publisher's 16mo cloth-covered wrappers, with a Catalogue of maps by Dripps mounted onto the inside front wrapper. Condition: Some separations along the folds; wrappers worn. a rare and large depiction of brooklyn. The map is dated from the otherwise unnamed “suspension bridge” over the East River (i.e. the Brooklyn Bridge) and the existence of the Brooklyn Elevated Railroad extending from the bridge and continuing along Park Avenue, Lexington and Broadway - the beginnings of rapid public transportation. Along the left side of the map is a comprehensive street directory. The one page advertisement of maps for sale by Dripps mounted onto on the inside wrapper lists 21 maps (though actually more), ranging in price from $.75 to $15, with another in preparation.
