La coppia figurava nell'inventario di Dresda del 1721 ed è datata ai secc. XVII - inizio XVIII. Gli autori suppongono che le due figure possano rappresentare immagini occidentali portate in Cina attraverso stampe, come le figure di Adamo ed Eva, oppure figure di schiavi o nativi di regioni esotiche.
