COOKERY] Manuscript recipe book, most likely English, 18th century, approximately 65 pp. manuscript in ink (with approximat... , most likely English, 18th century, approximately 65 pp. manuscript in ink (with approximately 130 recipes) on recto and verso of stitched sheets without binding. 12 1/2 x 8 inches (315 x 205 mm). The first and last leaves distressed with some losses, some spotting and edgewear throughout but internally quite clean for a document of this type. Eighteenth century cooking manuscripts are scarce and typically found in poor condition due to their heavy use in the kitchens of the day; the current manuscript is in mostly very good condition despite its lack of binding. The manuscript offers nearly 130 recipes (numbered from about 35-170) for various types of meats (turkey, pig), fish (mackerel, salmon), shellfish (lobster, oysters), pickling, making puddings, making jellies, marmalades, etc. Also includes winemaking instructions for several types of wine. An extremely rare class of manuscript, this cookbook certainly originating from a family of means. C Property of a New York Lady
