SEVEN VOLUMES, CHIEFLY 18TH CENTURY: "A Cookery Book", culinary recipes including preserves, desserts ("To make a floating Iland") and also medical and household prescriptions ("To make glass jars look like China"), menus and other notes, some entries noting where recipe has been tested, 8vo (190 x 130mm.), 131 pages, blanks, eighteenth century, written from both ends and in several hands, contemporary sheep, rebacked; "Receipts for Cookery and Pastry", 192 numbered recipes including "To make a Dish of tender Curds", "To make a Shoulder of Mutton eat like venison", 8vo (180 x 155mm.), 62 pages, in a single elegant eighteenth century hand, blue wrappers; collection of 148 numbered recipes, chiefly desserts and preserves, including "new Colledge Puddings", "Gumbles", and "Lemmon Brandy", with some unnumbered additions and medical prescriptions, 8vo (210 x 170mm.), 110 pages, with index, in several hands from the eighteenth and early nineteenth century, the final entry dated 1809, later vellum boards; collection with a wide range of culinary recipes from "Fish Cake" to "Charlotte de Pommes", with some medical prescriptions ("Receipts for the Cholera"), 8vo (200 x 165mm.), 113 pages, blanks, with index, in a single nineteenth-century hand, c.1830s-40s, modern marbled boards; House Book, culinary, household, and medical entries, some recording the provenance of the recipe, 4to (240 x 190mm.), 92 pages, several hands, dated 1756 to 1771, vellum; Household account book, 4to (210 x 165mm.), c.170 pages, dated 1801-1806, calf, rebacked; collection of proverbs, commonplaces, and religious advice, 4to (245 x 200mm.), 43 pages, in three hands, c.1800, loose in modern cloth
