Collection of booklets, newspapers and newspaper-cuttings, related to Reform Rabbi Bernard Felsenthal. USA (mainly Chicago), 1860s through early 20th century. English and German. Bernard Felsenthal (1822-1908), rabbi and author, born and educated in Germany, emigrated to the USA in 1854 and worked as a rabbi and teacher; later worked in a banking-house. Felsenthal was active in founding the Reform Movement, was involved with the Historical Jewish-American society and supported Zionism. The collection offered here includes mainly newspaper-cuttings with articles about Reform Judaism in the United States and "Chochmat Israel", some with comments or marks in Felsenthal's handwriting. In addition there are some issues of newspapers: * The Jewish Reformer, Vol. 1, issue no. 4, New-York, January 1886. * The Hebrew Leader, Vol. 12, issue no. 17, New-York, July 1868. * Libanon, Beiblatt zu "Young Israel", 3rd year, issue no. 2, New-York, 1877 (three copies); 3rd year, issue no. 12; 4th year, issue no. 1. * "Tosafot" - Extra - Beilage zur Chicago Sonntags-Zeitungs, 1867 (several copies). * The New Year, an Illustrated Periodical for Every Nation, first volume, first issue, Chicago, January 1, 1888 (three copies). * Leaves from The Jewish Times, New-York, 1870s. * Issues of Deborah, Cincinatti, 1857, and more. The collection also contains two booklets printed by Felsenthal: 1. Zwei Reden, gehalten am Vorabend und am Morgen des Neujahrsfestes 5625 (30. Sept. und 1 Okt. 1864.) im Tempel der Ziongemeinde Zu Chicago, Chicago, 1864. 2. Jüdische fragen, Beiträge zur klärung derselben, von B. Felsenthal, Chicago, 1896 (two copies). Total of about 270 newspapers-cuttings, newspapers and booklets. Size and condition vary.
