Chekhov dedicated the play to Nikolai Nikolaevich Solovtsov, a friend since childhood and director, as well as the actor who first played the character Smirnov. Not in Kilgour or Smirnov-Sokol'skii. Octavo (222 x 180mm), wholly lithographed, unbound as issued, blue paper spine.
