Château Mouton-Rothschild 1982
5 bottles per lot
MOUTON In 1853 Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild bought Château Brane-Mouton and renamed it Mouton-Rothschild. In 1945 to celebrate the ‘Année de la Victoire’ Baron Philippe de Rothschild commissioned the artist Philippe Juillan to design the label which began the tradition of a different artist designing the label for each vintage that continues to this day (except for 1953 and 1977). Such famous names as Picasso, Kandinsky, Francis Bacon and Andy Warhol have featured and helped to strengthen the reputation of the Château. Artists have never been paid for their work instead being rewarded with bottles of Mouton-Rothschild. Château Mouton-Rothschild was elevated to First-Growth status in 1973. Mouton-Rothschild has 82 hectares vineyards, of which 77 hectares are planted with red grapes with 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. For the Grand Vin the average age of vines is 48 years with a density of 8500 per hectare planted on gravel soils. Vinification of the Grand Vin takes place in traditional oak vats for between 15 and 20 days followed by maturation in oak barriques for between 19 and 22 months. Annual production of the Grand Vin amounts to approximately 300,000 bottles. Mouton-Rothschild is famous for the exotic and powerful fragrance of cassis and pencil lead combined with opulence, voluptuousness and an impressive persistence of flavour. Château Mouton-Rothschild 1982 Pauillac, 1er cru classé Levels: top shoulder, one nicked capsule, lightly bin-soiled and nicked labels 5 bottles per lot
