Highly detailed wooden model, approximately 30" in length, mounting base labeled "TRIPITZ", housed in a 35" x 12" x 11.75" oak and glass case. Details include gun turrets, singnal masts, life boats and a seaplane. Constructed of scrap wood, string and paper using simple tools by an unidentified German POW held at a camp in Canada. While the model is identified as the Tripitz, the superstructure and gun placement do not match the profile that ship or her sister ship Bismarck. It may simply represent the prisoner artist's interpretation of battleship or heavy cruiser. This particular model has been exhibited at the U.S. Naval War College Museum, Newport, RI and The Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum, New York, NY. Condition: Very good, appealing light age toning.
