Beschreibung:

The Boston Museum was established in 1841 by Moses Kimball. It was an entertainment nexus with a natural history museum, zoo, art museum, wax museum and theater all in one building. By 1850, it contained, according to an advertisement, "no less than seven different museums," including items from Ethan Allen Greenwood's New England Museum and Peale's Philadelphia Museum and claimed more than half a million articles. It continued in operation until 1903. These 11 broadsides date between April 14, 1862 and September 5, 1864. Some appear to have been trimmed a bit, others were just printed on slightly varying sized sheets, from approx. 5 x 17.25 in. to 5.5 x 14.5 in. to 4.5 x 13 in. During most of this time the Stage Manager was E. Frank Keach, who managed the theater from the mid-1850s until his death in 1864. The last broadside in this group shows R.M. Field as Stage Manager. Most of the great actors and actresses of the day played the Boston Museum, including most of the Booths - J. Wilkes, Edwin, Junius, etc., although the performers listed on these broadsides are not household names these days. the plays are generally a mix of "classics" and lighter material, as well as new productions. So "Faust" is listed on the same broadside as "Off to the War!" billed as a "Successful New Farce." Another broadside advertises "Brian Boroihme! or - The Maid of Erin" along with a "petite comedy," "Hopeless Passion." Another advertises the coming of "Much Ado About Nothing." These are fairly text-heavy, and generally list at least a couple different productions as well as coming events. Condition: A few trimmed. One with a tear lower left corner (paper still present). Generally free of toning and foxing other than a couple that seem to have been tacked to something and the adhesive has darkened a few areas.
