Beschreibung:

Lot of 12 printed broadsides, ranging in size from 4.75 x 10.75 in. to 4.5 x 14.25 in., promoting various theatrical productions staged by the Boston Museum Company, 1862-1864. During most of this time the Stage Manager was E. Frank Keach, who managed the theater from the mid-1850s until his death in 1864. Two later broadsides in this group list R.M. Field as Stage Manager. The Boston Museum was established in 1841 by Moses Kimball. It was an entertainment nexus with a natural history museum, zoo, art museum, wax museum and theater all in one building. By 1850, it contained, according to an advertisement, "no less than seven different museums," including items from Ethan Allen Greenwood's New England Museum and Peale's Philadelphia Museum and claimed more than half a million articles. It remained open until 1903. Most of the great actors and actresses of the day played the Boston Museum, including most of the Booths - J. Wilkes, Edwin, Junius, etc., although the performers listed on these broadsides are not as well-known today. The plays are generally a mix of "classics" and lighter material, as well as new productions, such as Romeo and Juliet, Rosedale, Marrying for Money, Poodle vs. St. Bernard, The Doctor of Alcantara, Mysterious Stranger, and Miller's Maid. These are fairly text-heavy, and generally list at least several different productions as well as coming attractions. Condition: Condition varies. Some with trimming, minor tears, spotting, toning, and staining.
