Allegorical frontispiece and 14 etched plates by Romeyn de Hooghe 11 of which are on full sheets and 3 on half sheets, and a portrait of the King by Pieter Van Gunst after John Brandon. (Some marginal browning and spotting, a few marginal repairs.) Contemporary Dutch blind-panelled vellum (loose in binding). Provenance : acquired from Walter Schatzki, 1959. FIRST EDITION of one of the finest Dutch fête books of the Baroque period. It celebrates the joyous entry into The Hague of Stadtholder William III as King of Great Britain. Romeyn de Hooghe's etchings show the procession, the triumphal arches, the Vyverberg and Binnenhof much as they appear today, the specially mounted decorations including painting and sculpture, and a spectacular display of fireworks.
