Contemporary French red straight-grained morocco, borders elaborately gilt, smooth spine, compartments gilt with classical and nautical devices, edges gilt. Provenance : gift from William Voekle, Dec. 1995. Catalogue of the important library and collection of antiquities bequeathed to the city of Besançon by Pâris, architect to Louis XVI and designer of the royal cabinet, who also designed and produced royal festivities at Versailles, Marly and Trianon. Pâris's bequest included ca 1500 architectural drawings, as well as a magnificent series of paintings and drawings by Hubert Robert Fragonard, Boucher, Saint-Aubin, and others. Includes a biographical "Notice" on the collector.
