A fresh set of the first edition account of this important surveying voyage to the Pacific, with valuable descriptions of the California and Alaska coasts and of Hawaii. The attractive views include one of Honolulu and another of Mount St. Elias. Ferguson 3564; Forbes 1377; Hill 102; Howes B-318; Lada-Mocarski 117; Sabin 4390; Wickersham 6543a. Two volumes, octavo (233 x 143mm). 19 plates including frontispieces and 3 folding maps, loose as issued in upper cover pocket of vol. 1 (some spotting and a little staining, without half-titles or ads). Original blue cloth, spines gilt-lettered, uncut and partially unopened (repair to vol. one spine, hinges and text block cracked). Provenance : Parmer Books.
