Autographs Fire Insurance Policies 1772-1940 a group of insurance policies which includes Sun Fire Office dated 1772, 1792, 1818 including The Plume of Feathers in Warminster, 1828 which includes the King's Arms Inn, plus some later; 1780 Hand in Hand for a house in Bow Lane in St. Mary Aldermary (this company was formed after the Great Fire of London and became the oldest fire insurance company in the world), the document featuring two of its firemen in the emblem at top; 1810 The Bristol Fire Office; 1822 Birmingham Insurance Company, the emblem featuring two firemen and engine for three messuage in Burslem (now in Stoke); 1822 County Fire Office, London featuring Britannia with lion (adhesive tape on reverse); 1840 Yorkshire Fire and Life Insurance Company featuring the cathedral in the emblem for a bond warehouse in Hull; 1847 Essex Economic Fire Assurance Association for the workhouse in Bocking; 1852 and 1867 Imperial Fire Insurance Company, latter in the original envelope with covering letter for Beddington Mill, 1840 Phoenix Assurance Company on 21 Park Side, Knightsbridge; later include Westminster Fire Office for a house and fire engine shed; The General Life & Fire Insurance Company; Palantine Insurance Company and other; also Proposals of the Sun Fire Office 1835 and Phoenix Fire Office 1825 and 1845. Also Australia with 1865 Victoria Life and General Insurance Company with elaborate vignettes including a view of Melbourne (folding and other tears) and a blank Alliance Assurance Company prepared to pay £500 should any member of the audience die from laughter from watching the film "It Should Happen to You". The condition is naturally a little mixed in places with typical folding creases necessary for such large documents, but generally fine to very fine. A magnificent and unusual collection.
