ATLASES] BURR, DAVID. A New Universal Atlas; Comprising Separate Maps of all the Principal Empires, Kingdoms & States throughout the world, and forming a distinct atlas of the United States . New York: D.S. Stone, [circa 1835]. Original quarter calf over purple cloth covered boards, upper cover stamped and lettered in gilt. 15 x 12 1/4 inches (38 x 32 cm); Engraved title and contents leaf, 63 hand-colored engraved maps under tissue guards. Endpapers foxed, faint dampstain affecting upper cover and first few leaves, small loss to lower margin of title, light spotting and marginal soiling to a few plates but mostly very clean, heavier spotting to maps of Greece and Maine, wear to binding with short split to the upper joint, a few stains, discoloration and rubbing to extremities and corners. An important atlas containing 24 maps of the United States including the expansive Oregon Territory. Known for his 1829 Atlas of the State of New York, Burr was topographer for the United States Post Office at the time this atlas was published. Phillips Atlases 771 & 1379a. C
