Unknown ABC photographer: An original American black-and-white press photo of the French diver and oceanograph Jacques Cousteau (1910–1997) during a TV-shooting on Galapagos in 1970. Cousteau is seen holding a marine iguana in his left hand. On the back a label concerning the tv-programme 'The Dragons of Galapagos' as well as a related press cutting dated February 21, 1971. Photo size 23×18 cm. Frame size 43×33 cm. Cousteau, who obtained cult status during his lifetime, was initially trained as an officer in the French navy, where he served until 1957. That year he was appointed head of the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco in which capacity he obstructed the French government's attempt to dump 6,500 barrels containing radioactive waste near Corsica.
This is an original black-and-white photograph from 1970, which shows normal signs of age and handling.
