Beschreibung:

An original American black-and-white press photograph of President Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882–1945) and British prime minister Winston Churchil (1874–1965) on the back seat of the presidential limousine, Sunshine Special. Washington, ca. 1943. On the back an Associated Press stamp and remains of a press cutting (?). Photo size 18×23 cm. Frame size 33×43 cm. Churchill was appointed British prime minister on May 10, 1940 and had from the very beginning two paramount goals. One was to brace the British public, practically as well as morally, for the hurricane that was to follw: The Blitz against London and the Battle of Britain. His second goal was to drag America into the war as fast as possible. This wish was fulfilled on December 8, 1941 when Roosevelt declared war on Japan as a result of the Japanese attack of Pearl Harbor the previous day. Thus a new phase of the relationship between Churchill and Roosevelt was inaugurated, a relationship that since then has been called 'the friendship which saved the world.
This is an original black-and-white press photograph from ca. 1943, which shows normal signs of age and handling. Furthermore one broken corner (lower left corner) as well as pin holes.
