Mowrer', on Chicago Daily News Berlin Bureau stationery, dated 18 December 1928, 4, to Professor Albert Einstein, mentioning that he wished to inform the readers of the Chicago Daily News what 'the greatest Germans' wished the world for the year 1929 after ten years of peace and many unsolved problems, and asking him to contribute to the article. Autograph reply in German from Professor Einstein on the reverse, fourteen lines, in ink, with his hopes for the future: 1) that this year may bring broadest possible international agreements concerning disarmament on land and sea, 2) that a solution of the international war debts will be found which will allow all European states to pay their obligations without having to pawn their property abroad, 3) that an honest arrangement can be reached with the Soviet Union which relieves this land from external pressure and allows its internal development to proceed unhampered (creased and slight tearing on folds).
