FIRST COMPLETE EDITION of Aeschylus. It includes the editio princeps of Agamemnon , the greatest Aeschylean tragedy, and one of the greatest masterpieces of Western dramatic literature. The first three editions (Venice 1518, Venice 1552 and Paris 1552) had been based on a manuscript tradition with a lacuna of more than two-thirds of Agamennon . Pietro Vettori, for the first time, distinguished Agamennon from the next play and Henri Estienne further corrected Vettori's text and contributed 40 pages of very important textual comments (Schreiber).
