EUSTATHIUS, Archbishop of Thessalonica (late 12th century). Commentarii in Homeri Iliadem et Odysseam , in Greek. Basel: Froben and Episcopius, 1559-1560. 2 volumes in 3, 2º (325 x 223mm). Woodcut device on title and colophon of both volumes, woodcut headpieces and initials. (Dampstaining at the end of part 1 with loss of some text in the last 11 leaves, most lower margins in vol.II dampstained, some browning, 2 small wormholes at the beginning of vol.I part 2). STRICTLY CONTEMPORARY VELLUM WRAPPERS , title in Greek lettered along spine, edges gauffered in blind (some staining, partly detached). Provenance : 'Ab initio videre incepi die 16 Aug 1569' [I started reading this on...] (inscription on front pastedown), some contemporary marginalia.
