A single-manual harpsichord by Kirckman, London, 1781 The mahogany case, cross-banded and line inlaid, with cast brass strap lid hinges and cast brass flap hinges, raised on a trestle stand with four square moulded legs and wooden ball castors. Four drawers are set into the stand. Fully adjustable music desk. The keywell veneered in walnut, inlaid with chevron stringing and cross-banded with kingwood. Inscribed on a boxwood plaque inset into the walnut veneered name batten: Jacobus et Abraham Kirckman Londini Fecerunt 1781. The five octave keyboards FF/GG–f3 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. The soundboard inset with a cast gilt metal rose. Two four foot and two eight foot registers, and buff stop, controlled by four hand stops. Pedal operated machine stop Length 222cm, width 94cm, case height including lid 31cm.
