A single-manual harpsichord by Kirckman, London, 1750 The walnut cross-banded and inlaid case with cast brass strap lid hinges and cast brass flap hinges, raised on a trestle stand with four turned legs and spoon feet. The walnut-veneered keywell inlaid with simple boxwood lines. Inscribed on a boxwood plaque inset into the walnut-veneered name batten: Jacobus Kirckman Fecit Londini 1750. The five octave keyboard FF/GG–f3 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. The soundboard inset with an intricately cast gilt metal rose. Two eight foot registers controlled by hand stops and a later buff stop operated by a knee lever. Length 231cm, width 93cm, case height including lid 29cm.
