70 2686 Genealogy and heraldry Arriëns P 1791 1860 70 2686 Genealogy and heraldry Arriëns P 1791 1860 70/2686 [Genealogy and heraldry]. Arriëns, P. (1791-1860). Small archive of ±95 manuscript documents concerning the Arriëns family, mainly Batavia and The Hague, mainly late 18th-19th cent., pen and ink on paper, occas. letterpress, occas. w. wax seals and paper seals mounted. = The Arriëns family is a family of patricians, originating in Ritzebüttel. This archive concerns i.a. Pieter Arriëns (1791-1860), whose type-script service record is presented and ishows him as an impressive figure. At the end of the document he mentions all the sums he has advanced to members of the royal family, such as Prince Hendrik (husband of Queen Wilhelmina) and the Earl of Megen (King Willem III) on their overseas journeys but never received back. The archive also concerns another Arriëns family member: Nicolaas Benjamin Hendrik Frederik Arriëns (1848-1910), son of Nicolaas Anne Theodoor Arriëns and Maria Catharina van Leeuwen. His father was the governor of Sumatra's West Coast. Nicolaas Benjamin was born in Indonesia and became president of the "Wees- en Boedelkamer" in Batavia. He was also a member of the freemasons. Another document concerns Claas Arriëns (1759-1820) who was born in Amsterdam (i.a. one manuscript document on vellum in which he receives his law degree in Leyden, dated 1783, w. large wax seal) and had five children with Catharina Gijsberta Boellaard (Van Tuyl).
