1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda Lot Number166 RegistrationNNB 210G Chassis Number11304412007854 Engine Number13098312004984 Odometer reading68,861 miles Estimate£76,000 - £85,000 Print details Send this to a friend Significant work just completed Supplied with a hardtop This car can be viewed in person from 14th to 18th July 2020 at our the auction site, Windsorview Lakes, Datchet, SL3 9HY The Mercedes-Benz W113 roadster, designed by Paul Bracq, was produced from 1963 through to 1971. All models boast an inline six-cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection, using a mechanical pump system adapted from the diesel motors. Most of these early SL's were sold with both the removable hard top and a soft top in the so-called 'coupé/roadster' configuration. By 1955, Mercedes-Benz Chief Engineer, Prof. Fritz Nallinger and his team, held no illusions regarding the 190SL's lack of performance so in 1960; he eventually proposed to develop a completely new 220SL design. This led to the W113 platform, with an improved fuel-injected 2.3 litre inline-six engine and the distinctive 'pagoda' hardtop roof called the 230SL. It made a remarkable debut at the prestigious Geneva Motor Show in March 1963. Engine derivatives offered were later to become 2.5 litre and finally the very popular 2.8 litre. This Mercedes-Benz has had significant time and investment spent on it in recent months and as such presents in delightful condition. This lefthand drive example has had both front and rear axles removed, cleaned, inspected and repainted. In addition to this the engine has been taken out and stripped and rebuilt, the engine bay was also thoroughly cleaned. The paintwork has been refreshed to a very good standard and is finished in Ivory with complementary Chocolate MB-Tex interior. A new soft top has just been fitted and the car also comes with a hardtop. The result of all this work is a very well sorted 280SL that is ready to go. Fitted with automatic transmission, this 280SL is supplied with a V5C registration document together with a current MoT test certificate valid until 14th November 2020. The quality of this car needs to be viewed to be appreciated. The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day.
