1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda *WITHDRAWN* Lot Number287 RegistrationAPF 10H Chassis Number11304422011639 Engine Number13098322007337 Estimate£36,000 - £46,000 Print details Send this to a friend From a significant Mercedes-Benz collection Original right hand drive example Largely original and solid base for restoration Offered with a desirable factory hardtop DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL, THIS LOT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN FROM THE AUCTION Introduced in 1967 was the final incarnation of this simply beautiful grand tourer. Beneath its well-made and elegant exterior was the uprated 2.8 litre unit. Comfort and quality were the watch words of Mercedes-Benz for all their range and there were certainly no short cuts when it came to the SL. The 2.8 litre, six cylinder produced an impressive 180bhp, 20hp more than the preceding 250SL, thus allowing a top speed of 200km/h and a shorter time to achieve it. Popular among many Pagodas are loved by celebrities and enthusiast alike and are regularly seen at classic car events. The 280SL being the most desirable model from the Mercedes series. Acquired by the current vendor from the fourth owner many years ago this original right hand drive 280SL Pagoda is presented in blue over a mushroom interior and is a very original example. The Mercedes comes complete with an extensive history file and is an exceptionally suitable candidate for restoration which the vendor initially planned to do before other commitments unfortunately got in the way. It is reported that the engine turns over and runs, and was in driveable condition when it was placed into storage in 2007. The Pagoda could be a relatively straight forward and fulfilling restoration for the new custodian. Original right hand drive, automatic, 280SL restoration projects are becoming increasingly difficult to find making this a very attractive proposition indeed.
