One of the 20th Century's truly great automobiles, the Volkswagen 'Beetle' transcended its origins as the German 'people's car', going on to become an all-time best-seller and cult classic. Originally conceived by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche the Volkswagen inspired unusual loyalty and enthusiasm based on its practicality, reliability, adaptability and affordability. The Volkswagen's layout was the essence of practicality. It was a remarkably well thought out concept, meeting a number of difficult challenges and it proved, in terms of its impact on automobile design and acceptance, comparable to Henry Ford's Model T. Visual changes during the model's long run were subtle, but the most desirable models are always the pre-1968 ‘small bumper’ cars, which retain the visual flavor and charm of the originals but which benefit from moderately increased displacement, rendering them more usable in modern traffic. This car, a desirable 1965 model, has been the subject of an amateur restoration carried out several years ago, and consequently presents very well both in and out. Fitted with a period radio, the interior retains its original charm; the vendor reports that this Beetle drives nicely and will make a great introductory classic for a new collector. Sold on a California Certificate of Title.
