Présentée en 1983, la Volkswagen Type 183 Iltis (putois) est une Jeep légère qui remplace dans l'armée allemande la DKW Munga et la VW Type 181 dérivée de la Coccinelle. En 1965, Volkswagen fait l'acquisition d'Audi (et avec elle de DKW, autre marque du défunt groupe Auto Union). Son nouveau véhicule militaire est basé sur la Munga, modifiée avec le moteur 1 760 cm3 de l'Audi 100, et autres composants. Le développement le plus important du Type 183 est son nouveau système de transmission à quatre roues motrices, qui va servir de base à celle de l'Audi Quattro de tourisme. Bien qu'étant un véhicule militaire, l'Iltis peut se targuer d'un beau succès sportif : une Iltis préparée par Audi remporte le rallye Paris-Dakar en 1980, entre les mains de Freddy Kottulinsky et Gerd Löffelmann. La plupart des 183 sont dotées d'une carrosserie ouverte à quatre places, bien qu'il existe de nombreuses variantes adaptées à diverses fonctions. Environ 9 500 exemplaires ont vu le jour entre 1978 et 1988, la plupart destinés à l'armée allemande, mais aussi aux armées argentine, belge, canadienne et estonienne. The Type 183’s most important development was its new four-wheel drive transmission system, which would later form the basis for that of the Audi Quattro road car. Although a military vehicle, the Iltis has one notable motor sporting achievement to its credit, an Audi-prepared example winning the 1980 Paris-Dakar rally driven by Freddy Kottulinsky and Gerd Löffelmann. Most Type 183s were manufactured with open, four-seater bodywork, though there were numerous variations depending on the intended role. Approximately 9,500 were built between 1978 and 1988, mostly for the German Army but also for the armed forces of Argentina, Belgium, Canada and Estonia. This Iltis is presented in original condition and is offered with Belgian title.
