1964 MERCEDES-BENZ 230SL CONVERTIBLE Registration No. NMX 5 Chassis No.113.042.20.004903 Engine No. 127.981.20.004468 White with black interior Right hand drive The 230SL replaced both the 190SL and 300SL in 1963 and was to be an immensly successful car that accounted for almost 20,000 sales in its four year production life before giving way to the shortlived 250SL and subsequent 280SL. The Sindelfingen bodyworks had acquired a wind-tunnel in 1960 and this and the company's first crash tests did much to dictate the shape of the 230SL and enable 100mph cruising with a top speed of 120mph, readily attainable in great comfort and safety. This manual example complete with its pagoda top has just returned from Guernsey where it did some occassional wedding hire work. The car was restored around 1990 in Portugal with work to the engine (including new valves), the interior was refurbished using original Mercedes materials and the car was repainted. It also has a new hood and tonneau cover. The car does start, but is not said to be running well and it is thought the injectors will need a service. NO RESERVE
