Dans les veines de la Type E coule le sang des Type D, victorieuses aux 24 Heures du Mans en 1955, 1956 et 1957. Il est donc logique qu'elle offre les performances que suggère son allure, grâce au six-cylindres double arbre qui a fait la gloire de la marque, ici en version 3,8 litres. Ses 265 ch emmènent la voiture à 240 km/h et cette voiture va connaître une longue carrière accompagnée de plusieurs évolutions esthétiques et techniques. Version américaine à l'origine, la Jaguar Type E que nous proposons a été achetée en 1988, par l'intermédiaire du garage Coventry Motor, à Bruxelles. Depuis, elle n'a pas quitté la famille. De couleur noire, ce qui souligne magnifiquement sa ligne d'une élégance hors d'âge, cette voiture ne semble pas avoir beaucoup circulé ces derniers temps et devra sans doute faire l'objet d'une révision de principe. La présentation est sympathique et, à l'intérieur, l'habitacle est soigné et comporte un autoradio Blaupunkt. Le volant bois à branches ajourées se marie à merveille avec la sellerie noire, l'ensemble invitant à une conduite rapide mais respectueuse, dans une ambiance de chic et de luxe. C'est en carrosserie coupé et dans sa première version que les spécialistes reconnaissent que la Type E est la plus pure et la plus belle, offrant un dessin qui reste parmi les plus spectaculaires de l'histoire de l'automobile.
