We are pleased to present this rather interesting Austin Healey (Frogeye) Sprite Mk. I. According to the British Motoring Heritage Trust Certified Factory Record, this Sprite was manufactured as a righthand drive, UK, home-market car and was built on 10 th May 1960 and dispatched to Prynn and Stevens Limited on 12 th May 1960. Factory fitted equipment included front bumpers, toughened glass and a rev. counter. Today, 409 AXU, is presented in the original specification colours of Iris blue coachwork and blue trim, however, this Sprite has, in recent years, has undergone restoration works and upgrades that make it a very usable and fast. A photographic record shows that the car was stripped down to a shell and a lightweight rear end and bonnet fitted. Mechanically, the engine was replaced with a rebuilt 1,275cc unit that included, roller rockers, steel pushrods and Swiftune billet camshaft amongst the usual items required. Fuel is supplied by a single point Jenvey fuel injection system with an Emerald Management System, mapped ignition and a tubular 4-2-1 Stainless exhaust system. Extra items of note are an alternator and negative earth conversion, an oil cooler, aluminium radiator, electric fuel pump, electric cut off, new battery, halogen headlights and relayed circuits. The engine is mated to a Type 9 five-speed gearbox and the front brakes have been converted to discs to accommodate the extra power. The coachwork presents very well and the engine is easily accessible via the front-hinged bonnet. A new laminated windscreen and side mirrors aides vision both forwards and rearwards. The interior boasts re-trimmed seats, new carpets, fire extinguisher and a Mota-Lita wood and alloy steering wheel; a spare wheel is also included. The weather equipment consists of side screens, a tonneau and a new soft top that will require fitting, but who would use it? On a recent test drive, this little Austin Healey surprised with its power, handling and stopping characteristics. In summary it is more than capable of handling modern traffic in all situations. A large history file accompanies 409 AXU and includes photographs, technical information, invoices, an old style green log book and a current UK V5 log book. We are also informed that this Sprite will arrive at the sale with a fresh MoT test certificate. This pretty little Sprite offers so much in such a small package and seems, to us, to be offered with a more than reasonable and tempting estimate.
