1725 Aus dem Besitz Sir Thomas Phillipps' - Middle Hill Press. Sammlung v. ca. 150 meist in mehreren Exemplaren vorliegenden Publikationen, insgesamt etwa 500 Objekte. Middle Hill, Cheltenham u. a. 1818-86. 8° bis Fol. Meist ohne Einbd., viele OPp., einige OLwd., OHlwd. oder OBrosch. Schätzpreis: *R (3.000,- €) Sir Thomas Phillips (1792-1872) gilt als der größte Handschriftensammler aller Zeiten. Seine vielleicht wichtigste Einzelerwerbung war die Sammlung v. Gerard Meerman. Auf seinem Anwesen Middle Hill in der Grafschaft Worcestershire gründete Phillipps eine Privatdruckerei, in der verschiedene Drucker ausgewählte Stücke seiner Sammlung druckten. 1862 wurde die Offizin nach Thirlestaine House in Cheltenham verlegt. Der Großteil der v. der Middle Hill Press veröffentlichten Handschriften sind Dokumente zur britischen Geschichte, aber auch Lyrik, Reiseberichte, Satiren u. a. Material wurde berücksichtigt. Eine Anzahl Publikationen galt der Erfassung der eigenen Sammlung u. auch anderer Bestände v. Handschriften, Büchern, Bildern, Möbeln u. Photographien. 1886 erschien "The Middle Hill Press. A Short Catalogue of some of Sir Thomas Phillipps' Privately Printed Works" (v. Thomas Fitzroy Fenwick).
