ZEMAH, Jacob ben Hayyim (d. after 1655). Kol be-Ramah (commentary on Idra Rabba ), followed by eight other treatises of Lurianic Kabbalah. MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER [Eastern Europe, 17th-18th century] 4 o (205 x 155 mm). [1 blank] + 303 leaves, with various old Hebrew and erroneous modern pencil foliations. Light brown ink. Ashkenazic semi-cursive script. Probably by the same scribe who copied Neubauer nos. 58, 75, 77, 88, 100 and 103 (lots 141, 134, 137, 73, 110 and 140). With printed architectural borders in the style of the plates used by the Amsterdam printer Joseph Athias, pasted onto the paper to decorate the titles on fols. [1]r, 224r (largely detached), [286]r (without text). (Numerous marginal notes folded inside before the book was trimmed by an earlier binder, margins still relatively wide, some staining.) Modern blind and gold-tooled black morocco, two modern paper flyleaves at back and front, older red sprinkled edges. CONTENTS: I. Fols. [1]rv: blank. Fols. 1r: title-page Kol be-Ramah . Fol. 1v: blank. Fols. 2r-186v: text Sefer Kol be-Ramah . First published in Korets 1785 (Vinograd, Thesaurus , p. 600, no. 58). Fols. 187r-196v: blank. II. Fols. 197r-216v: another commentary on Idra Rabba from the school of Israel Saruk (c. 1600). On this commentary, which is also found in other manuscripts, cf. R. Meroz, in Kolot Rabim. Rivka Shatz-Uffenheimer Memorial Volume (Jerusalem 1996) p. 307-378. The beginning of the commentary was published from an Oxford manuscript in this publication. III. Fols. 217r-220r: Glosses on Hayyim Vital's Otserot Chayyim , taken from Moses Zacuto's Kol ha-Remez . Fols. 220v-223v: blank. IV.
