Unsigned Japan, 18th century, Edo period (1615-1868) The octopus (tako) with its long tentacles bundled together underneath its large smooth head, one tentacle pressed against its forehead, the large eyes inlaid in dark horn. Several barnacles are incised and inked on the cephalopod’s head. The reverse with a gorgeous, lustrous honey patina, the surface smooth from wear, the netsuke pleasingly tactile in the hand. Large, asymmetrical himotoshi through the back. HEIGHT 5.7 cm Condition: One tentacle is restored, several age cracks, there is an added signature Mitsuhiro with kakihan.
