(8vo) uniformly bound in three quarter maroon morocco and marbled boards, gilt spines with raised bands, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt. No. 600 of 800 copies of the Versailles Edition. Scarce complete set of Wormeley's translations of French Court Memoirs. Katharine Prescott Wormeley was an American nurse in the Civil War and translator of French language literary works. She was one of the best known translators of her time, having translated from the French language the complete works of Balzac in 40 volumes. Includes: Memoirs of the Duc de Saint-Simon on the times of Louis XIV. and the Regency. (4 volumes.) The Correspondence of Madame, Princess Palatine, of Marie-Adelaide De Savoie, and of Madame De Maintenon. Memoirs of Madame De Motteville on Anne of Austria and Her Court. (3 volumes.) The Life And Letters Of Madame Elisabeth De France. Journals And Memoirs Of The Marquis D'Argenson. (2 volumes.) Diary and Correspondence of Count Axel Fersen, Grand-Marshal of Sweden Relating to the Court of France. Letters of Mlle. De Lespinasse. The Book of the Ladies (Illustrious Dames) with Elucidations on Some of Those Ladies by C. C. Sainte-Beuve. (This volume is published by William Heinemann and is not numbered as a copy of the Versailles Edition, though is uniformly bound with the rest of the volumes.)
